Storming of Capitol

It's appalling. I feel sick. I never thought I would see this in the United States.

I also felt sick in June, though. I'm glad most Republicans, and all the top leadership, condemned it and the President.
I didn't think he would do this

Anyone want to abolish the Police now? The Capitol Police?

What should it be called?
terrorists ? thousands of protesters, 1 policeman killed, virtually no damage except broken windows, doors
Terrorists would have blown things up, killed 100's, started fires. If the protesters were all armed they could have done so.
Rioters? Yes, broadly. How much damage did they cause compared to that in June 2020? Not much vandalism, burning or looting.
It was a political attack, aiming to disrupt government at the highest level. But not a coup.
Coup attempt? thats a joke. Or its a joke of a coup. how many were armed? This is not a scary paramilitary group (thank God). Once they got in, and Congress was gone, they didn't know what to do. They didn't have people do a serious search for the politicians or do battle with their guards. They took selfies.

Armed? I just saw one wooden spear with metal tip. Guns? Seems few.

MLK quote repeated many times during BLM protests in June - "A riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it that American has failed to hear?"
Now it is domestic terror, a coup, treason (btw MLK out of context, he wasn't defending rioting)

Vandalism Pelosi's office? NYT headline, but no damage visible in pic.
I think its a travesty to describe a riot as mostly peaceful, but ... literally, seems like they were.

How many? ABC article many said were only 1000's. Why couldn't security keep them out? Unless security was badly botched, or deliberately weak. This is the result of the attempt to use minimize police, that police create violence, led by Mayor Bowser of DC https://abcn.ws/3nk8Ffc

Dems will look for a network of far right organizations, tie them to mainstream republicans, fox news, wsj, in a Russiagate like smear campaign. May succeed in making centrist Americans recoil from the Republican party in horror for years

Why aren't there 10,000 crack troops in DC available on one hour notice? (actually there should be 2 groups of 10,000-- one like an urban police force trained to use minimum necessary force. The other like Seals or the Delta Force, to respond to serious terror or coup attempts.
Why? Maybe to prevent coup attempts. So there is not a Praetorian Guard in DC.

President did not exactly call for violence or breaking the law as far as I've seen so far. But he said so many things I hold him guilty till proven innocent. I think its time for 25th amendment, I don't trust him in control of military.
Yes his lies encouraged the protestors. Yes, a minority of Repulicans supported those lies. BLM, NY Times, WaPo lies that it is 'open season on black men', 'thousands shot by police' (over 5 yr period, mostly armed or fighting with officer) encourage rioters in June, who attacked government and innocent civilians. Inflammatory language, calling opponents criminals and enemies of the people, threats of violence have been routine on the left for decades. We just tuned it out. "No justice no peace" is a violent threat. Same for Dems who clamied 2016 election was stolen, President was Russian agent. Which could encourge  violence against Republicans (which has occurred).

I'm not excusing Trump, I'm saying both sides have been bad and need to turn around.

Media will try to make every Republican guilty of this. We did make a big mistake.
We should have impeached Trump when we had the chance. I guess we should have denied him nomination (in hindsight). But- he won it in a democratic election(s). That would be reversing a legal election. That is exactly what he is rightly condemned for now. Or- abandon the Republican party and form a new one.

Worst violation of Capitol since War of 1812? Worse in some ways, Puerto Rican terrorists shot 5 congressmen in 1954.(none were killed)

If police are outnumbered I don't think they have to continue trying to restrain people with their arms when it is futile.  I think they can and should shoot. In the George Floyd riots and at the capitol, police were overwhelmed and they almost never shot, so the rioters had their way. The police should use minimum necessary force. But they should use the force that is necessary to protect innocent lives and property.

The protesters seemed awed by what they had done, intimidated by the marble and and paintings and statues, not sure what to do. They even kept within the velvet roped path in in some gallery.
